Mending Rune of Perfect Order

Spell Required

Law of Regression (37 INT)

Overview

Goldmask is a brilliant scholar who seeks to understand the true nature of the Golden Order. His questline is intertwined with Brother Corhyn, a traveling faith tutor. Together they uncover a devastating secret about the Erdtree and the gods, culminating in the Mending Rune of Perfect Order — the ending that restores the Golden Order to its purest form.

Quest Steps

Step 1: Roundtable Hold

Talk to Brother Corhyn. He will sell incantations and mention Goldmask, a great philosopher.

Step 2: Altus Plateau (Bridge of Iniquity)

Find Goldmask at the broken bridge near the Grand Lift of Dectus. He stares at the Erdtree silently.

Step 3: Tell Corhyn

Report Goldmask's location to Corhyn. He will move to Goldmask's location and the two will stay together.

Step 4: Leyndell Capital (Colosseum)

Find both NPCs at the colosseum near the east capital gate. Goldmask will have new dialogue but needs the Law of Regression incantation to continue.

Step 5: Mountaintops of the Giants

Final location near the frozen lake. Use Law of Regression on the Radagon statue at Leyndell's Queen's Bedchamber to reveal the secret. Return to Goldmask for the Mending Rune.

Key Rewards

Missable Points

Law of Regression requires 37 INT — if you cannot reach it, the quest blocks permanently. If you progress Leyndell to Ashen Capital, both NPCs die and the quest is permanently locked. Do not kill Goldmask early or you miss the ending.

Pro Tip

The Law of Regression requires 37 INT. Use stat-boosting gear (Stargazer Heirloom +5 INT, Godrick's Great Rune +40 all stats, Twinsage Glintstone Crown +6 INT, Marika's Soreseal +5 MND/INT/FTH/ARC) to meet the requirement without permanently investing points.

Tips and Tricks

Goldmask's quest requires the Law of Regression incantation, which needs 37 Intelligence and 53 Faith or the Two Fingers Heirloom. This incantation is found at the Divine Tower of Liurnia, behind a door requiring the Carian Inverted Statue. The quest must be completed before Maliketh is defeated, as the Mountaintops bridge location becomes locked after the endgame transition. Brother Corhyn will appear at each location automatically if exhaust his dialogue before moving to a new area. Fextralife's Corhyn page has detailed location maps and dialogue checkpoints.

Mending Rune of Perfect Order

The Mending Rune of Perfect Order offers one of Elden Ring's philosophical endings. Goldmask, after learning Marika's secret through the Law of Regression, realizes that the Golden Order's god is flawed. His mending rune creates a "perfect order" free from the meddling of outer gods, death, and undeath — essentially returning the world to a purely mechanical existence governed only by the fundamental laws of the Elden Ring. This ending is neither benevolent nor malevolent; it simply removes all divine influence. Wikipedia's analysis of Elden Ring endings provides deeper context on the Perfect Order ending's philosophical implications.
